Franklin Island (Antarctica)

The Franklin Island (English: Franklin Iceland ) is an island in the Antarctic Ross Sea. It is 11 km long and is located north of the Ross Island and Beaufort Island and east of McMurdo Sound.

James Clark Ross landed on January 27, 1841 on the island and named it after John Franklin, Governor of Van Diemen's Land ( Tasmania ).

On the island there is a large breeding colony of Adelie penguins ( P. adeliae ).
