Franso Hariri

Franso Hariri (* 1937 in Harir, † 18 February 2001 Hewler ) was an Assyrian politician and senior member of the Kurdish Democratic Party ( KDP).

Life

Franso Hariri in 1937 in the town of Harir, which is 70 km from Hewler, to the world. In Hewler he finished his training as a teacher in 1960. His involvement in the KDP began in the early 60s. Hariri was close to Mustafa Barzani and was elected in 1979 to the Central Committee of the KDP. In his political career he has held several important posts in the party and the Regional Government in northern Iraq. He was the leader of the KDP, Governor of the provinces of Arbil and ministers.

He participated in many projects to modernize and beautify the city Hewler. In addition, he was a great patron of education, health and sports projects.

Hariri was assassinated on February 18, 2001 on his way to work by four members of the radical Ansar al Islam. 1994 and 1997 attempts were made ​​in the same place before, where Hariri was able to escape but.

In his honor, the football stadium was renamed in Hewler Franso Hariri Stadium.
