František Čáp

František Čáp (born 7 December 1913 in Tschachowitz, Bohemia, † January 12, 1972 in Piran, Slovenia) was a Czech film director. In Germany, he also called himself Franz Cap.

Life

In 1932, he was actor in the film Before the Matura ( Pred maturitou ) by Svatopluk Innemann and Vladislav Vancura.

In the late 1930s, he wrote screenplays for the dramas virginity (1937, Panenství ) and step into the dark (1938, Krok do tmy ).

The first directorial effort (along with Václav Krska ) was the film Ohnivé léto with the cast Václav Sova, Otýlie Benísková and Lída Baarová. For the Prague production company Lucernafilm followed in 1940 with Vera Panna Ferbasová and the film adaptation of the novel by Bozena Nemcova Babicka with Terezie Brzková in the title role.

In 1941 he was at the International Film Festival in Venice a commendation of the jury for the film Noční motýl ( German The Moth ).

In the Film Festival of Cannes 1946, he won the Grand Prix for the film Muži bez Kridel ( German men without wings ).

In 1950 he was shooting for the Bavaria Film in West Germany the crime crown jewels with Sybille Schmitz and Hans Nielsen in the lead roles. In 1951 Mercury for the drama film The eternal game with Will Quadflieg. For the CCC Film Production The trail leads to Berlin, he took over the government in 1952.

In 1954 and 1955 he received the award Golden Arena for Best Film at the Yugoslav Film Festival in Pula. One of his most famous films, The Geierwally based on the novel by Wilhelmine von Hillern, Čáp 1956 turned into the Federal Republic.
