Frantsishak Skaryna Belarusian Language Society

The Society of Belarusian language ( Таварыства Беларускай Мовы / Tawarystwa Belaruskaj Mowy, abbreviated TBM) is a non-governmental organization in Belarus, according to its statute, has the following objectives: increase the prestige of the Belarusian language in the company of Belarus, extended use of Belorussian in all areas of life, protection of the purity and independence of the Belarusian language and endeavor to ensure that the Belarussian gets the real status of a state language in Belarus.

The TBM was therefore established in 1989 before the collapse of the Soviet Union; the founders included, among others, the Association of Writers of Belarus, the Belarusian ministries of education, culture and information, as well as the linguistic and literary studies institute of the Academy of Sciences. Registered office for Belarusian language is Minsk, it is represented with local associations throughout Belarus.

Activities

The TBM has come in recent years, mainly as a defender of the rights of white Russian-speaking citizens of Belarus in appearance. This is especially true for the relationship with the state institutions, which sided preference of the Russian language is accused. The organization also supports the translation of all types of foreign-language literature into Belarusian and use of the Belorussian by representatives of foreign organizations, diplomatic missions and businesses that operate in Belarus. It participates in the scientific discussion for the Belarusian language and makes recommendations to the language and culture of the Belarusian orthography.

Journalistic activity

The TBM is the weekly newspaper Nasha Slova ( " Our Word ") and Novy Chas ( " New Time " ) out. " Novy Chas " is a weekly newspaper of general subject, which has been published since 1990 Bulletin " Nasha Slova " on the other hand consists of articles that deal with the Belarusian language and literature, and of the TBM as an organization. " Nasha Slova " is not a philological journal, but is aimed at the TBM members and to a general audience that is interested in the Belarusian language, literature and the situation of the Belarusian society.

Chairman

Chairman of the Society of Belarusian language since 1999, the historian and social democratic politician Aleh Trusay. Its predecessors were the writers Nile Hilewitsch (1989-1997) and Henads Buraukin ( 1997-1999).
