Franz Körte

Heinrich Friedrich Franz Korte ( born March 17, 1782 Aschersleben, † January 30, 1845 in Luedersdorf at Möglin ) was a German natural and agricultural scientists. For thirty years, he worked at the Albrecht Daniel Thaer founded by Agricultural Academy Möglin. Its official botanical author abbreviation is " Korte ".

Life and work

Franz Korte was the son of a Protestant preacher, his brother William Korte (1776-1846) was a literary historian, administrator and Johann Wilhelm Ludwig Gleim.

Korte worked as an apprentice and officials in farms. From 1803 to 1804 he studied natural sciences, particularly botany and chemistry at the University of Halle ( Saale). He then returned for two years back in the agricultural practice. In 1806 he turned to scientific studies. He worked extensively with the flora of southern Germany and habilitated in 1811 at the University of Erlangen. In the same year he went as a lecturer at the University of Würzburg. From here, Albrecht Daniel Thaer caught up with him in 1814 as a lecturer in science at its Agricultural Academy in Möglin. 1815 Korte was awarded the title of "Royal Prussian Professor ". In the same year he married Thaer's daughter Caroline, widow of Georg Ernst Wilhelm Crome.

Korte was a man of excellent educational and organizational skills. 1818 gave him Thaer the Directorate of Mögliner teaching institution in 1819 by the Prussian state administration was granted the right to call themselves " Royal Prussian Academy of agriculture ". 1825 took over Körte the editors of the magazine " Möglinsche annals of agriculture ". In 1830 he handed over the management to his brother- Philipp Albrecht Thaer. He took over in the same year the management of the estate Luedersdorf. His teaching at the Academy Mögliner he continued, however.

From 1836 to 1842 Körte a new magazine was the successor institution of the " Annals Möglinschen " out, for which he chose the title " Möglin'sche yearbooks ." Of the published at irregular intervals yearbooks published five volumes. Korte was an honorary member of several agricultural associations. The Prussian king awarded him the " Red Eagle IV class."
