Franz Peter Wirth

Franz Peter Wirth ( born September 22, 1919 in Munich, † October 17, 1999 in Berg am Starnberger See) was a German film director.

Life

Wirth had studied theater arts. From 1948 to 1950 he was dramaturg and director in yard, 1951-1954 senior director and deputy director in Pforzheim. In addition, he gave guest directorships. Then he moved from the stage to television. From 1954 to 1960 Wirth worked as a senior director at the SDR, since 1960, he was senior director of Bavaria Atelier GmbH.

As a television director he specialized initially on literary adaptations. He turned from the 1970s, some Derrick and Tatort episodes. His most famous television adaptation was applied as a series adaptation of Thomas Mann's Buddenbrooks 1979. His movie adaptation of the play Heroes 1958 was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film.

Wirth, who had received numerous awards, turned up to his death at the age of 80 years television films. He died of a heart attack. His wife was Wega Jahnke.
