Club career

Career start at Rapid

Resch began his career in the youth department of his home club SK Rapid Wien. In the season of 1989 he made his debut under rookie coach Hans Krankl in the first team Hütteldorfer. Rapid took place under Krankl an upheaval of the club philosophy, the included what Resch greatly benefited the increased promotion of self-made players in a row. In the tenth round of the season he came in the 0-0 draw in the away match against Sturm Graz for the first time more than 90 minutes to use. This was followed by eleven more season games, mostly as a reserve player. In OFB Cup he came up to the semi-finals in each game, scoring in the second round for the 2:3 victory nV against Grazer AK in 118 minutes the winning goal. In the finals against Austria Vienna, which Rapid 3-1 aet lost, it came as no surprise to use. At the end of the season he was next to the surprisingly large aufspielenden Horst Steiger, the discovery of the season. At the beginning of the season 1990/91 he had for the time being satisfied with the role of the Joker, as Krankl on the defensive but sat surprisingly again arriviertere players like Reinhard Kienast or Robert Pecl. For the second round, he was converted into a midfielder Krankl thereupon, which he once again was able to complete games over the full distance. In OFB Cup he was up to the first two rounds in any game in action and was also in the final against the SV Stockerau in the starting lineup of Rapid. The game ended with a surprising victory of 1:2 stark outsider, Resch was replaced in the 59th minute against Andreas Reisinger.

For the 1991/92 season he was able to then finally in the root formation of the green - white establish. Krankl let him come back to his ancestral position on the defensive for the course, which had a strong player performance increase result. After strong play at the beginning of the season, he was promoted under coach Josef Hickersberger in the fall 91 of the Austrian national team and played the strongest season of his career. Contrary, however, went to his strong performances the development of the association. With the disappointing 5th place in the table Master Play-Off still behind Admira / Wacker, one was greatly fallen short of expectations, the Cup was not on the second round addition. As a consequence, had to go to the end of the season, which was replaced by Gustl Starek with coach Krankl his biggest supporter.

Under Starek changed in consequence of his status in the team rapidly for the worse. In the very first round in the game against the Wiener Sport - Club, he had to take over the full distance on the bench because Starek put on another defensive compilation. As a result he came in only fourteen games of the season to use, much of it he had to pass on the unpopular position in midfield again. At the end of the season then he followed the call of his former coach Krankl that the then Premier League rivals VfB Mödling held as coach in the meantime.

VfB Mödling

In addition to Resch Krankl had already poached with Herbert Gager and Andreas Poiger two other Rapid players who had blossomed under him at Rapid and Starek had a hard time. With table space 6, equal on points with Rapid, Mödling managed in a row of a sensation. Krankl had the rank outsiders, peppered with failed talents, formed into a compact team that has previously acted as the first candidate for relegation. Among other things, you could post some sensational victories, with the 0:2 away win in the 33rd round in Hanappi Stadium is against Rapid, which sparked the coach peel of Hubert Baumgartner and thus led to the installation of Ernst Dokupil to view as an emotional climax. With the disposal of success coach Krankl at that financial Croesus FC Tirol Innsbruck, then the decay of the team was initiated. Resch, who as a regular player with strong performances had a great role in the success was to become the focus of runners Austria Wien, who then took him for the following season under contract. On the part of forever financially strapped Mödlinger were laid changing any obstacles in the way, as a transfer fee was due.

Flop at Austria Vienna

The move to Austria, however, should prove to Resch as a wrong decision. From coach Hickersberger fetched as desired player, this had surprisingly claimed second place, just behind Austria Salzburg go early in the summer of 1994 and was replaced by Egon Coordes. This preferred another game system and put mainly on the two purchases of Hickersberger (next Resch also Frenk Schinkel ) no value. As a result Resch came only in the Supercup and three UEFA Intertoto Cup games to level (of which only the Supercup about 90 minutes) before he was to be discharged. An intended change to LASK fell through at the last second, after which the VfB Mödling seized the opportunity and brought him back to the second half. Resch had no use for the League Favoritner.

Return to Mödling

Back in Mödling he found himself in a moderately occupied team again. After the departure of Krankl did not make it to the club to prolong the run of success from the previous season and spent the whole season on the lower table ranks. This held also by the return of Resch and the coaching change by Kurt Jara Walter Stöffelbauer nothing, so you had to compete at the end of the season with just four wins and only sixteen points as Table the transition in League 2.

For the season 1995/96 they subsequently went with an almost unchanged team and the clear objective of " immediate resurgence " in the 2nd Bundesliga. For winter crossing time you was with table space 3, only one point behind leaders FC Linz in the plan set before coach Stöffelbauer was the Spring Start by desire coach Hans Krankl, who had previously failed in Tirol, replaced. Among returnees Krankl Mödling launched a negative run and slid to the end of the season on table number 4, with 22 points behind leader Linz, from. There were big financial problems and a failed merger with neighboring region Admira Wacker, whereby the club still had to make drastic savings during the season. As a consequence Krankl was replaced by the actual manager of the Mödlinger Christian Janitsch and cut the contracts of the "Star Team " at the Regional level.

The season 1996/97 then went a total sell-out of the team before, according to which only a handful of Bundesliga experienced players remained. Resch surprisingly held the club loyalty and witnessed by another unsatisfying season with the club. From contenders to Mödling had changed for the relegation and managed as thirteenth narrowly avoid relegation. Financially, the club was due to a strong audience deficiency, which had increased steadily over the last few seasons, no longer independently viable, so it came with Admira Wacker after the season to already targeted in the past merger. Resch should be adopted as one of the few players in the Bundesliga squad Mödlinger of the newly founded VfB Admira Wacker Mödling, but decided to a move abroad.

Change to Scotland

About mediation of the then not uncontroversial manager Edi Brunner, he then received together with teammate Mario Dorner a trial with Scottish Premier League club Motherwell FC, in which both were able to convince the then manager Alex McLeish. Previously, both had already played at FC St. Johnstone and complied, but refused a contract for bad conditions. However, shortly after signing the contract the Admiralty refused the release for a change for the two players, calling for a transfer fee. The merger between Mödling and Admira, there were several inconsistencies over the contract situation of the players. While Brunner argued that both players would be free transfer, the Admira let it be known that you would plan with two for the new season. In result, there were tough negotiations between all parties before the Admira but both gave the share. Previously mainly McLeish had made strong for the commitment and both players called desire. As a result, started mainly with large Resch Vorschusslorbeeren in the season in Scotland. As the Austrian International announced that he had raised some expectations among fans that he could meet right away. On 2 August 1997 he made his debut in the 2-0 home win against Dunfermline Athletic for his new club and was instantly one of the strongest players of his team. It was followed by two further League and two League Cup games in which he continuously as a regular player was used and appealing performances handed in. After entry into the League Cup second round then end of August 1997 it was announced that both Austrians had only signed a monthly contract, which would be mutually agreed not extended. This caused especially in the case of Resch, who could convince unlike Dorner, for astonishment. In an official statement of the association it was then that you could both do not agree on a long-term contract and the club would not be prepared to make a better deal.

A year England

Less than a month later Resch came again in a twin pack with Dorner under the English tradition club Darlington FC in Football League Two. After a test game in which both could score a goal for 2-0 victory against the reserve of Newcastle United, she took the club this time until the end of the season under contract. As a result, both started the season well before Resch was thrown back by several small injuries. While Dorner worked up a crowd favorite and top scorer of the club that really be classified higher Resch came more and more into the background. After he even lost his place at end of season, his contract was not renewed. Dorner, however, was voted player of the year and extended for another year.

Captain at FC Lustenau

Thus the adventure "island" for Resch was completed, after which he moved surprisingly ambitious for FC Lustenau in the Regionalliga West. The Lustenauer took Eric Orie equal to another former teammate of Resch from Austria Wien and Mödling times under contract and gave as a target before the baldigsten promotion to the first division above. In the first season they failed to place in the table 5 is still clearly at the goal, before you even Mario Dorner took the following season the club, which should strengthen the offensive drastically. As a result we won the league with the strongest offensive confident the championship title in the Regionalliga West, but failed again in the relegation matches against SV Mattersburg that you lost with a total score of 1:6, on the rise.

2000/ 01 was followed by Roger Prince, another former professional reputation of the association, whereupon Lustenau, led by Resch as captain, once more presented. You managed again with a goal difference of 71 sovereign title in the RLW and overcame the hurdle relegation with a total score of 6:3 against Vienna. In the professional league is the team showed, in spite of the veterans, then greatly overwhelmed and was Table. Due to the bankruptcy of the SV Braunau, but still had the opportunity in the relegation play against the Viennese sports club, the one defeated with a total score of 4-0 and thus surprising but still managed to avoid relegation. The following year the team played in the secure midfield, Resch led his team in 33 of 36 rounds as a captain on the field. In the season 2003/ 04 he was then forced to cut back greatly due to many injuries and completed only 11 season games. Lustenau slithered in the meantime, back in the relegation battle, the League and ended the season as the second to last. After the crew of the SCR Altach was beaten with a total score of 4:6 in the relegation matches and relegation again, then he finished his playing career.

National

After strong performances at Rapid Resch became in 1991 under the then national coach Alfred Riedl to the A- team players in Austria.

His debut celebrated on September 4, 1991 in a 1-1 draw in a friendly against Portugal in Porto. After he was able to convince, to Riedl decided to accrue from the start it in the next qualifying match for the European Championship in 1992 against Denmark. Austria played in a half-empty Praterstadion a weak game and lost earned 0:3.

After the defeat Riedl was dismissed and Dietmar Constantini took over as coach on an interim basis. With the disposal of Riedl Resch was canceled despite good performances at club level from the expanded group of national players and no more was used.

Coaching career

After the active career he completed several OFB coaching courses and has since been working as a coach at various clubs in the Vorarlberg minor league. In 2008 he had a short interlude for the parent club of Bruno Pezzey, FC Lauterach. He is currently in the 2nd Vorarlberg State League with FC Kennelbach under contract.
