Franz Xaver Stöber

Franz Xaver Stöber ( born February 20, 1795 in Vienna, † April 11, 1858 ) was an Austrian engraver, steel engraver and etcher.

Life

He received from his father Joseph Stober, who was also an engraver The first training, then he attended the Vienna Academy with great success. In 1815 he attracted with his own engravings with mythological scenes, the attention of the public. In 1829 he received a privilege for the steel engraving, which allowed much higher requirements compared to the engraving. Even with the color of copper and steel plates he worked. In 1835 he became a member of the Vienna Academy, 1842 Hofkammer - engraver, from 1844 teacher of engraving at the Academy. Flushing was several years commander of the Vienna Academic Corps and director of the Vienna Artists ' pension ' Institute.

His work is estimated at 2,500 sheets. In addition to portraits (eg Grillparzer, Hammer Purgstall, Castelli ) and large-sized sheets for the annual gift of the Art Association, he left behind a wealth of vignettes, engraved title, almanac images. He worked after designs of his brother Johann Ender and Josef Danhauser, Peter Krafft, Friedrich von Amerling, Ferdinand Georg forest Müller, Peter Fendi, Fischbach or Schrotzberg.

Stöber had a valuable collection of over 500 cans, which were all decorated with an original of an artist.

In 1877 in Vienna Margaret ( 5th district ) was named the Stöbergasse after him.
