Fred Anton Maier

Fred Anton Maier ( * December 15 1938 in Tømmerholt, Nøtterøy Island ) is a former Norwegian speed skater.

At the Olympic Winter Games in 1964 in Innsbruck Maier won the bronze medal over 5000 meters and a silver medal in the 10,000 meters. He was at the Olympic Games in Grenoble Olympic champion in the 5000 meters in 1968 and again won the silver medal in the 10,000 meters. In the same year, he was named World and European Champion in the all around.

Between 1965 and 1968, Maier to a total of eleven world records. Its maximum value in the Peerage was 173.518 points; his best finish was second place. It was in 1968 awarded the Oscar Mathisen Memorial Trophy. In addition, he won the election to Norway's Sportsman of the Year.

Maier was also a successful racing driver. 1957 and 1967, he came third in the Norwegian National Championships in the time trial.
