Fred Hoiberg

Fredrick Kristian Hoiberg (born 15 October 1972 Lincoln, Nebraska ) is a former American professional basketball player. At the moment he is busy as Head Coach at Iowa State University.

High School and College

In his time at Ames High School in Iowa Hoiberg was active not only in the basketball team at school, but at the same time also acted as the quarterback of the football team. In 1991, Hoiberg his team to the state championship and was sure to "Mr. Chosen Basketball " in Iowa. He then moved to the Iowa State University. His first three years where he played under Johnny Orr, his last year of college under Tim Floyd.

Hoiberg was elected to the First Team of the Big Eight Conference in 1995 and was one of the most popular athletes of all time at Iowa State University. In the mayoral election in 1993 in Ames, he was even a few votes as a " write-in ", although he was not on the ballot. Then he got the nickname "The Mayor".

NBA

Hoiberg took part in the NBA Draft in 1995 and was pulled 52 out of the Indiana Pacers. After four years with the Pacers, he joined in the summer of 1999 to the Chicago Bulls, where he was coached by his old coach Tim Floyd. In the summer of 2003, he finally moved to the Minnesota Timberwolves, where he made a name for himself as a dangerous three-point shooter. He was in 2005 the first player in NBA history, leading the league in batting average from the three- point line and still not allowed to participate in the three-point contest at the All -Star Days.

Coaching career

In summer 2005, Hoiberg had to undergo a heart surgery. Although the operation was successful, but after a short comeback to Hoiberg decided to end his career and instead switch to the coaching staff of the Timberwolves. In April 2010 he took over the job then the head coaches at Iowa State University, where he inherited Greg McDermott.
