Frédéric Chabot

Frédéric Chabot ( born February 12, 1968 in Hebertville, Quebec ) is a retired Canadian professional ice hockey goaltender and current goalkeeping coach.

Career

Frédéric Chabot has been selected in the NHL Entry Draft in 1986 by the New Jersey Devils in the tenth round at position 192. At that time he played in the Ligue de Hockey Junior AAA Quebec at the St. Foy Midget. From the autumn of 1986 he played in the Canadian Junior Football League QMJHL with the Drummondville Voltigeurs with which he managed from 1987 to the final round at the Memorial Cup. In 1988, he joined the Canadian junior level in the Western Hockey League, where he played one year with the Moose Jaw Warriors and the Prince Albert Raiders.

The New Jersey Devils had offered him a contract and then Chabot could choose which team he wants to play. In January 1990 he received a contract with the Montreal Canadiens. However, the season he played in their farm team in Sherbrooke Canadiens of the American Hockey League and the Fort Wayne Komets of the International Hockey League. 1990/91 he received three bets in the National Hockey League, but said he played through a game.

He spent the remainder of the year for the most part in the AHL with the Fredericton Canadiens, or in the East Coast Hockey League with the Winston -Salem Thunderbirds. In the NHL Expansion Draft 1992, he was indeed selected by the Tampa Bay Lightning, but again transferred back to Montreal the next day. The Canadiens were in the Expansion Draft, which was held to allow new teams to fill their squad by players themselves choose the already existing teams, blocking a specific number of players who wanted to keep them unconditionally and Chabot was not among them. The Montreal Canadiens were the 1993 Stanley Cup win, but Chabot could not help a lot in because he had played only 40 minutes in the NHL.

In January 1994 he was sent by the Canadiens in a business transfer to the Philadelphia Flyers for their farm team Hershey Bears, he played mainly. He came four times in the NHL to use, but usually only when the team already lagged hopelessly. Positive it was for him, however, at the Hershey Bears in the AHL, where he was awarded at the end of season 1993/ 94 with the Aldege " Baz " Bastien Award as the best goalkeeper in the league.

The Treaty of Chabot was not renewed in the summer of 1994, but he got a new with the Florida Panthers. However, he never played for the Panthers in the NHL. Instead, he was first-choice goalkeeper at the Cincinnati Cyclones in the IHL, where he played for two years. From 1996, he played for the Houston Aeros in the IHL. In summer 1997 he was awarded a NHL contract with the Los Angeles Kings, where he met with Jamie Storr shared the role of back-up goalie Stephane Fiset of. Nevertheless, he played for the Houston Aeros parallel further, where he remained until 2001.

But after a year his time in Los Angeles was over, as he was selected in the NHL Expansion Draft in 1998 by the Nashville Predators. But who gave him free and the Montreal Canadiens finally took him back to live with him. With José Théodore he made a back-up duo behind goalkeeper Jeff Hackett. In the summer of 1999 he even received a contract extension for two years, but his services were dispensed from now in the NHL. Instead, Chabot played in the IHL with the Houston Aeros his best season and he was elected to the IHL First All-Star Team at the end of the year and received the James Norris Memorial Trophy as the goalie with the fewest goals against.

In the summer of 2000, he was again selected in an expansion draft, this time from the Columbus Blue Jackets, for which he would never play. He played one more year in Houston, but then the IHL was dissolved.

Chabot moved to Germany in the DEL, where he played three years for the Nuremberg Ice Tigers. He belonged to the time of the best goalkeepers in the DEL. 2001/ 02 he had a Gegentorschnitt of 1.98 and a catch quota of 93.2 percent in 2002 /03 he had even just a Gegentorschnitt of 1.81 and he held 94.5 percent of all shots. In both seasons, he had the top scores so the league. In 2004 he moved to Vienna Capitals in the Austrian Hockey League, where he won the championship with the team.

In 2005 he returned to Germany and played the 2005/06 season at Adler Mannheim and shared with Ilpo Kauhanen the stakes. The season, however, was not successful, because they missed the playoffs. Chabot contract was not renewed in the summer of 2006.

After his retirement, he took over from the 2007/ 08 season, the goalkeeper training at the Austrian first division club EHC Black Wings Linz.
