Frederick Bernard, Count Palatine of Gelnhausen

Friedrich Bernhard von Pfalz- Birkenfeld - Gelnhausen ( born May 28, 1697 in Gelnhausen, † August 5, 1739 ibid ) was Count Palatine and Duke of Zweibrücken- Birkenfeld to Gelnhausen.

Life

Friedrich Bernhard was the eldest son of the Duke and Count Palatine of Birkenfeld - Gelnhausen Johann Karl (1638-1704) from his second marriage with Marie Esther (1665-1725), daughter of Georg Friedrich Freiherr von Witzleben to Elgersburg.

He succeeded his father in 1704 in Birkenfeld Deputat Gelnhausen. Friedrich Bernhard was in the French military service and was Colonel of the Regiment Royal Alsace. Friedrich Bernhard was a knight of the Palatinate Hubertus Order. In a contract with the Zweibrücker guardian, Karoline 1736 Friedrich Bernhard was granted an appanage of 12,000 guilders.

Since his marriage remained without a male heir, succeeded him as head of the line Gelnhausen his younger brother Johann.

Marriage and issue

Friedrich Bernhard married on 30 May 1737 Arolsen Ernestine Luise ( 1705-1782 ), daughter of Prince Anton Ulrich of Waldeck and Pyrmont, daughter of his cousin Louise. From his marriage he had the following children:

• Karoline Luise (1738-1782)
• Ernestine Friederike Auguste (1739-1746)
