Frederick Ouseley

Sir Frederick Arthur Gore Ouseley (* August 12, 1825 in London, † April 6, 1889 in Hereford ) was an English music scholar, organist ( church musician ) and composer.

Life

Ouseley studied at the University of Oxford, where he in 1854 as D.Mus. doctorate. From 1855 to 1889 he was professor of music at Oxford. He founded the St. Michael 's College in Tenbury Wells as an institution for the revitalization of the Anglican church music.

Its today largely unknown compositions include liturgical works (services ) for the Anglican church, oratorios, cantatas, organ music and more.
