Frederick Ruckstull

Frederick Wellington Ruckstull, German Frederick Ruckstuhl ( May 22nd 1853 in Breitenbach -Haut-Rhin, † May 26, 1942 in New York City ) was a French- American sculptor and art critic.

Life

In 1855, the German - French family Ruckstuhl emigrated to St. Louis, Missouri. There Ruckstull Frederick grew up and worked in various jobs later. An art exhibition inspired him and jerk it stall studied art history and sculpture. Later he went to France and worked in Paris in a toy factory to finance his studies at the prestigious Académie Julian. There he studied under Gustave Boulanger, Camille Lefèvre and Marius Jean Antonin Mercié. Know Ruckstull learned Auguste Rodin and worked as an assistant with him. In the United States returned in 1892 he opened his own studio in New York City. A year later he won the gold medal for sculpture at the World Columbian Exposition in Chicago. Frederick Ruckstull was a founding member of the National Sculpture Society in the United States.

Frederick Ruckstull was married since 1896 and had a son. He died on May 26, 1942 in New York City on a heart attack and his body was cremated.
