Frederik H. Kreuger

Frederik Hendrik Kreuger ( born May 14, 1928 in Amsterdam) is a Dutch high voltage scientist and inventor. He lives in Delft ( Holland ) and is Professor Emeritus at the Technical University of Delft. He has published scientific literature, non-fiction, detective novels and a biography of the painter and art forger Han van Meegeren.

Biography

Frederik H. Kreuger comes from an old Amsterdam family. His maternal grandfather operation in the Weteringstraat near the Rijksmuseum, a small tobacco factory called " Het Wapen van Spanje ".

Frederik H. Kreuger wrote a book about this grandfather, on his tobacco factory and the rapid development of science and technology in the former Belle Époque in 2007.

He visited Haarlem in a science high school, studied electrical engineering at the Technical University of Delft, completed his engineering degree and a Ph.D. in 1961 in 1954. From 1954 he worked as a high voltage scientist working in Sweden, England and the Netherlands. Later, he became director of the Nederlandse Kabelfabriek in Delft. In 1986 he was appointed professor for high voltage at his alma mater in Delft. There he worked until his retirement in 1995.

Kreuger is the inventor of various high voltage cable systems and measuring instruments for partial discharges. To these inventions, which have become usual standards of the high- voltage technology, including:

  • Elastomeric end caps in plastic high voltage cables
  • Elastomeric sleeves in plastic high voltage cables (bi - called manchet )
  • Kreuger the bridge measuring system for objective measurement of partial discharge
  • A discharge standard for the measurement of partial discharges.

His book Partial Discharge Detection was twenty-five years the standard work in its field. He also published books on management and mismanagement in the research and about the shortcomings of wind energy. Its high voltage laboratory in Delft was a Research Center for partial discharge measurements and for the study of DC high voltage (100-1000 kV) for use in X-ray equipment, in the high-voltage direct current transmission in the cathode ray tube and in other applications.

Frederik H. Kreuger is the inventor of a system for the use of solar energy on the sea by large floating beds of seaweed, which is used for production of biofuel. The department " The Botanical Garden " of the Department of Biotechnology at the Technical University of Delft in charge of this project in collaboration with several other departments of the Technical University.

He wrote a study about Jan Vermeer and Vermeer 's use of the camera obscura. He also published a study of the fixed point, could have his picture painted by the road from Vermeer in Delft.

In 2001, he began research on the painter and art forger Han van Meegeren. He first published a novel about him with sketches about Jan Vermeer and a short biography of Han van Meegeren.

In his research benefited him that he was being Dutch the native language of Han van Meegeren said, and that he lived in the Netherlands, as the art forger was active during the Second World War there. In the search for the primary sources he evaluated the information from John Godley, 3rd Baron Kilbracken and the interviews by Marie Louise de la Doudart Grée with Han van Meegeren from. He interviewed the last living relative of Han van Meegeren and the last living witnesses of his detention, and he also discovered an unpublished biography of the son Jacques van Meegeren, containing the new information about the father. He also found previously unknown photographs that relate to Han van Meegeren, and paintings that Van Meegeren had signed with his own name; In addition, he discovered and identified some not so far identified forgeries of old masters, the Van Meegeren had made.

In 2004, he presented his research results and the images he discovered in his Dutch Biography Han van Meegeren, Meestervervalser.

In 2006 followed the book De Arrestatie van een Meestervervalser, again in Dutch, in which he took into account the many reactions to his first biography.

Finally, he published in 2007 his English Biography A New Vermeer. Life and Work of Han van Meegeren, which he named after the article A new Vermeer in which the Vermeer expert Abraham Bredius the forgery Emmaus by Han van Meegeren as the best painting of Jan Vermeer designated in 1937, he had ever seen.

From the year 2010 he published the English catalog of works by Han van Meegeren with extensive background information. The catalog of works appeared in 2013 in the fourth revised edition under the title of Han van Meegeren Revisited. His kind & a List of his Works.

Frederik H. Kreuger plays first violin in the orchestra for amateur gypsy music with names Siperkov ensemble. He wrote an essay on the origins and the experience of this music and published it in 1996 in the Dutch language.
