Fredrik Ljungström

Fredrik Ljungstrom ( born June 16, 1875 in Stockholm, † February 18, 1964 ) was a Swedish engineer, designer and industrialist. Together with his brother Birger he developed named after them Ljungströmturbine and the first fully automatic transmission cars.

For his services he was, inter alia, awarded the James Watt Medal.

As a keen sailor Ljungstrom intensive research of innovative forms and sailing boat types. He invented the storm jib and developed the Ljungströmkryssare, a streamlined sailing boat, of which up to the 1960s in Sweden about 200 units were built. The rig consists of a pivoted mast with double sail, but does not have a tree.
