The association of progressive women's clubs was founded in October 1899 in Berlin. The affiliated clubs were part of the radical or left wing of the Federal German Women's Associations ( BDF). A clear separation did not take place, many of the member organizations of the VFF were also members of the BDF. 1907 joined the association as a whole in the BDF.

Members and Board

Among the members of the clubs VFF belonged to the Berlin association Woman Welfare and several of his daughter clubs, the club women's education - female enrollment and the clubs of the German branch of the International Abolitionist Federation. The board of the VFF were, among others, Minna Cauer, Anita Augspurg, Maria Lischnewska and Lida Gustav Heymann.

Program

The objectives of the Association were:

  • The fight against the so-called double standard
  • Establishment of government girls' schools and secondary schools
  • The promotion of women's suffrage

Differences between VFF and BDF

Unlike the BDF, the VFF is not marked off against the workers organizations. Already in the founding of BDF 1894 later members of the VFF itself had spoken out against the exclusion of the socialist women's organizations have pushed. The BDF was at best to cooperate with non-political workers clubs ready, especially because the current club laws prohibited women membership in political associations. In principle, the weighted Radical self-help more, refused to state coercion and advocated a more pacifist course. Therefore many representatives of radicals engaged in the peace movement or for abolitionism and supported Helene Stöcker's " new ethics ". The women's suffrage demand was represented in principle by both radicals and the moderates, differences were mainly in view, as this requirement is to enforce.
