Freedom Movement of Iran

The Iranian Freedom Movement (Persian نهضت آزادی ايران Nehzat -e Azadi -e Iran, short NAI, in English Freedom Movement of Iran, FMI ) is a 1961 by Mehdi Bazargan, Mahmoud Taleghani, Yadollah Sahabi, Mostafa Tschamran, Ali Shariati, Sadegh Ghotbzadeh and others founded a political organization.

Positions and situation

Although it is the ruling system in Iran today in question, it is one of the few groups whose existence is nevertheless tolerated any longer in the country.

Secretary-General since the death of Mehdi Bazargan in 1995, Ebrahim Yazdi, a former fellow of the Ayatollah Khomeini, who was foreign minister in Iran's transitional government in 1979 a short time.

The Iranian freedom movement is one of the major parties in the Alliance of Nationalist - Religious Iran ( Etelaf -e Melli Niruhaye Mazhabi -e Iran).

Since 2000, there have been arrests of activists of the grouping. Their influence on Iranian politics has increasingly diminished. Candidates of the freedom movement were repeated not generally approved by the Guardian Council to elections.
