Freiburg Declaration

The Fribourg Declaration is published in June 2012 statement by Roman Catholic priests and deacons from the Archdiocese of Freiburg. They confessed that they dish out Catholics who have remarried after a divorce the Holy Communion. After the release they are set by Archbishop Robert Zollitsch under pressure to withdraw their signature. Nevertheless, at the invitation of Freiburg Vicar General Fridolin Keck, a meeting with the initiators planned, Archbishop Zollitsch will participate.

While Archbishop Zollitsch expressed understanding for the concerns of the Declaration and reforms presented for the Pastoral Care remarried divorcees in view, others expressed critical. Cardinal Joachim Meisner emphasized to possible reforms the indissolubility of marriage. He he earned strong criticism. The majority of the German bishops has been silent so far to Fribourg Declaration.
