French frigate Jean de Vienne (D643)

The Jean de Vienne is an anti-submarine frigate of the French Navy of the Georges- Leygues -Class (model F70 ). She is the fourth unit of this class and named after the French Admiral, the Hundred Years War, Jean de Vienne.

Your sister city is Besançon, capital of the Franche -Comté region.

History

The Jean de Vienne was laid in October 1979 in Brest to Kiel and the launching took place two years later in November 1981. Upon commissioning on 25 May 1984 it was integrated into the Force d' Action Navale (FAN).

In the years 2001 to 2002, Jean took the Vienne part in Operation Hercules in the Indian Ocean and from 2008 to 2009 in Operation Atalanta off Somalia.
