Frequency of optimum transmission

The Frequency of optimum transmission ( FOT, French fréquence optimum de travail) is the optimal frequency for radio communication on shortwave.

It is defined as 85% of the maximum usable frequency. FOT provided in 90 % of the time a reliable radio link. Lower frequencies are attenuated more in the ionosphere, no longer reflects higher frequencies under certain circumstances.
