Fresnes-Mazancourt

Fresnes- Mazancourt ( Picard: Frène - Mazancourt ) is a northern French village with 125 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) in the department of Somme in the Picardie region. The municipality belongs to the canton Chaulnes and is part of the Communauté de communes de Haute Picardie.

Geography

The community is located approximately 6 km northeast of Chaulnes in the north of Autoroute A29 and west of the department of road D1017 ( former Route nationale 17) - at this the community part Mazancourt - and the disused railway line from Saint -Just-en -Chaussée to Douai.

History

The rule Fresnes is already known in 1045. Later it belonged to the peerage of Chaulnes. The current castle is one of modern construction. Mazancourt goes back to a dairy farm. 1430 Florimond de Brimeu is mentioned as Lord of Mazancourt. The estate came later to the Merlin of Mazancourt who gave it up in the 16th century. Then Mazancourt became a farmhouse.

The municipality received the Croix de guerre as a distinction from 1914 to 1918.
