Friedemann Kupsa

Friedemann Kupsa ( born September 7, 1943 in St. Pölten, Austria ) is an Austrian cellist.

Friedemann Kupsa studied at the Academy of Music in Vienna and attended masterclasses with Daniil Shafran, as well as chamber music courses at the La Salle Quartet. Since 1986, the musician is a member of Fanny Mendelssohn Quartet. With this ensemble he got international recognition through numerous chamber music premiere recordings of Fanny Mendelssohn- Hensel, Ethel Smyth, Germaine Tailleferre and Bacewicz.

The cellist played the great piano chamber music of Max Reger with pianist Wolfram Lorenzen a (Piano Quintet, Op 64, Piano Trio Op 102 Piano Quartets opp. 113 and 133 ) and the first 8 string quartets by Darius Milhaud and the two great string quartets by Arthur Bliss. Together with pianist Anna Silova he played the two cello sonatas of Ethel Smyth as a world premiere recording. Even with the CD recording of the Cello Works by Nadia Boulanger, he distinguished himself. He also published together with the pianist Céline Dutilly the recordings of the two works for cello and piano by Fanny Mendelssohn- Hensel, the "Sonata o Fantasia" as a world premiere and the " Capriccio ".

His commitment to the music of the 20th century could Friedemann Kupsa with the world premiere recordings of duo sonatas of the Greek composer Nikos Skalkottas and the Romanian composer Anatol Vieru show. Together with the duo sonatas by Maurice Ravel, Zoltán Kodály, Arthur Honegger, Darius Milhaud and the variations of Elizabeth Maconchy. he played the world premiere of the duo 's composition " street music n ° 16 ", a 210 op by Dimitri Nicolau, which is dedicated to the two soloists Renate Eggebrecht, Violin and Friedemann Kupsa, cello.

The musicians played with his ensemble in numerous concerts as, inter alia, accompanied at the Schleswig- Holstein Festival, Dobbiaco, Gustav Mahler Festival, Women's Music Festival Chard, Music Festival of Lucca, Women's Music Festival Munich and the Moravia Festival of radio recordings and television recordings.

In 1991 he founded together with his wife Renate Eggebrecht the CD label Troubadisc which publishes Classical music beyond the usual repertoire.
