Friedrich August Ukert

Friedrich August Ukert ( born October 28, 1780 in Eutin, † May 18, 1851 in Gotha ) was a German philologist and historian.

Ukert attended high school in Eutin and studied from 1800 in Halle and Jena. From 1804 he worked as a private tutor, among other things, in Weimar, where he was tutor to the two sons of 1807 two years before the late Friedrich Schiller, Karl Friedrich Ludwig and Ernst Friedrich Wilhelm. In 1808 he followed a call to Gotha, where he first worked as an inspector at the high school, then as a librarian at the ducal library.

In addition to translations of historical and geographical works he published work on demonology and library history.

Since 1935, the lunar crater Ukert bears his name.
