Friedrich Christoph Pelizaeus

Friedrich Christoph Pelizaeus (* 1851, † 1942 in Kassel ) was a German neurologist and inherited by Ludwig Merzbacher namesake of the X-linked Pelizaeus -Merzbacher disease.

Life

Pelizaeus received a classical humanistic education at the Royal Grammar School at Castle Square to eat. After graduation, he received his doctorate in 1874 at the University of Würzburg as a doctor of medicine. Subsequently, he was an assistant of Karl Friedrich Ferdinand Runge in the Hessian premier seaside resort of Nassau on the Lahn. Later he worked as a spa doctor in Ilmenau, Kreischa and Bad Oeynhausen.

In 1885 he first described a family with this disorder of myelination of the central nervous system; In 1910 he examined the brain of a man from this family histologically.
