Friedrich, Duke of Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg-Glücksburg
Duke Frederick of Schleswig -Holstein -Sonderburg- Glücksburg ( born October 23, 1814, Gottorp Castle, Schleswig, † November 27, 1885 by Luis Lund ) was a member of the House of Schleswig -Holstein -Sonderburg- Glücksburg, a branch line of the House of Oldenburg.
Life
Frederick was the second son of Duke Friedrich Wilhelm of Schleswig -Holstein -Sonderburg- Glücksburg (1785-1831) and his wife Princess Louise Caroline (1789-1867), youngest daughter of the Landgrave Charles of Hesse -Kassel.
After the death of his childless brother Duke Charles in 1878 he was appointed as the new Duke of Schleswig -Holstein -Sonderburg- Glücksburg. His younger brother was enthroned in 1863 as a Danish king and reigned as King Christian IX.
Marriage and issue
On July 16, 1841, then Prince Frederick married in Biickeburg the Princess Adelheid Christine of Schaumburg-Lippe ( 1821-1899 ), second daughter of Prince Georg Wilhelm and Princess Ida Karoline Luise of Waldeck- Pyrmont. The marriage ended in divorce after seven years, but in 1854 both were married a second time. The marriage produced five children:

- Friedrich Ferdinand (1855-1934)
- Louise (1858-1936)
- Marie Wilhelmine (1859-1941), unmarried; Abbess of the monastery Itzehoe nobles,
- Albert (1863-1948)
