Friedrich Köhnlein

Friedrich Köhnlein ( born December 12, 1879 in Nuremberg, † July 5, 1916 in the Somme department ) was a German chess player and chess composer.

Life

Köhnlein studied in Munich mathematics and physics. From 1907 he worked as a secondary school teacher in Pirmasens, then from 1911 at the county secondary school in Nuremberg. At the beginning of World War Köhnlein was drafted and has been missing since July 1, 1916. Only later were long investigation that Köhnlein must have fallen on 5 July 1916 in the Battle of the Somme.

Chess players

Köhnlein was a strong game player and won the Masters Tournament in 1908 A to the 16th Congress of the German Chess Federation in Dusseldorf. In the round-robin tournament with 14 participants Köhnlein lost only a short match against the 15 -year-old world chess champion Alexander Alekhine later.

By winning the Main Event A Köhnlein earned the title " Master of the German Chess Federation " and was therefore henceforth entitled to participate in the Masters Tournament of the DSB; so he took 1910 divided the 11th to 14th place in Hamburg.
