Friedrich Noack

Friedrich Noack (pseudonym: F. Idus, born April 20, 1858 in Giessen, † February 1, 1930 in Freiburg im Breisgau ) was a German art historian and writer.

Noack received his doctorate in 1881 at the University of Giessen. He has written numerous articles for the artist lexicon Thieme- Becker.

In 1886 he translated Sebastian Brant's " Ship of Fools " and published it with personal illustrations.

For his works on German in Rome he laid out a comprehensive notes archive. On more than 18,000 notes, it contains over 11,000 entries in Rome working artists and their clients, mostly in old shorthand system Gabelsberger, but also newspaper clippings and archive extracts. Today the material is kept in the archives of the Bibliotheca Hertziana in Rome and is accessible online.
