Friedrich Walchner

Friedrich August Walchner ( born September 2, 1799 in Meersburg, † February 17, 1865 in Karlsruhe ) was a German geologist, chemist and mineralogist.

Life

Walchner studied in Göttingen and at the Albert- Ludwigs- University of Freiburg, and in 1817 member of the Corps Rhenaniastraße Freiburg. In Freiburg he was also a member of the union Burschenschaft cooperative / association for editing scientific articles and 1818 the Old Freiburg fraternity. In Freiburg he habilitated in 1823 and became a lecturer and ao Professor. In 1825 he was appointed as one of twelve teachers at the newly founded Polytechnic School in Karlsruhe, where he worked as professor of mineralogy, geology and chemistry. From 1833-1836 he held the post of Director there.

He was appointed to the Directorate of Forestry and mining industry in the Grand Duchy of Baden. Since 1838, mining engineer, he retired in 1855.
