Friedrich Wilhelm Zopf

Friedrich Wilhelm Zopf ( born December 12, 1846 in Roßleben, † June 24, 1909 in Münster ( Westphalia ) ) was a German botanist and biologist. Its official botanical author abbreviation is " pigtail ".

Life

He studied natural sciences at the University of Berlin. He received his PhD in 1878 on the Conidienfrüchte of Fumago at the University of Halle. From 1880 to 1883 he taught as an adjunct professor at the Agricultural College in Berlin. It was followed by the habilitation in 1882 at the University of Halle.

Braid was known about his work on the classification of fungi. Bacteria he saw in his time as fission fungi. As a result, he conducted research on the dye production in fungi and lichens. In 1899 he became director of the botanical garden of the University of Münster.

On plait the genera Copromyxa go braid, Hyphochytrium braid, plait Rhizidiomyces and Rhodococcus Zopf 1891 as well as various species name back.
