Friends of the Earth Australia

The Friends of the Earth Australia ( FoEA ), founded in 1974, is a non-profit organization that is the Australian member of the overarching organization Friends of the Earth. Only one organization in each country be a member of Friends of the Earth, in Germany this is the covenant of the Environment and Nature Conservation Germany. The Australian organization with about 4,000 members, is committed to the interests of environmental protection and nature conservation and the related social, political and human rights.

Policy

FoE Australia is located in the left and green political spectrum in Australia. She has structures of the grass -roots movement and cooperates with other groups. FoEA works on the basis of scientific knowledge and research, with the use of media, advocacy, peaceful actions and also with lawsuits before courts.

Against global warming, the FoEA is active and developed in 2009 a campaign against the expansion of coal mining and export. It participates in initiatives against the Australian nuclear policy and is an important component of the anti - nuclear movement in Australia, it is against uranium mining in Australia, the operation of the uranium mine of Olympic Dam and the storage of nuclear waste in the Northern Territory. The FoEA advocates a moratorium on the research, development and production of nanotechnology until regulations are developed with regard to the health and safety of workers, communities and the environment. Against the use of chemical toxins, especially of bisphenol A in consumer production, use of pesticides in drinking water catchment areas and for sustainable agricultural and food production enters the FoEA.
