Friends World Committee for Consultation

The Friends World Committee for Consultation ( FWCC ) is a worldwide umbrella organization for the Quakers. The FWCC sees its task as a mediator to act between the differently oriented Quaker. Founded in 1937 in Swarthmore, Pennsylvania the Order of the FWCC was formulated as follows:

Of the 368,000 Quakers worldwide are 265,000 in the 70 annual meetings, which are connected to the FWCC. Thus, over 2/3. The FWCC organized every three years, the so-called Triennial, to formulate common concerns. Between the Triennial is an Interim Committee meets annually to drive decisions and the work between the Triennial

The Haupt-/Welt-Büro has its headquarters in London. About this office and the communication to the United Nations runs in New York and Geneva. Subordinated to the FWCC is also the International Membership Program shall integrate the individual living Quakers. This is done through travel, correspondence and publications.

A further object of the FWCC is that public relations in order to make the activities of the Quakers and their concerns known to a wider public.

The FWCC is divided again into four areas:

  • Section Africa, based in Nairobi, Kenya
  • Asia and West Pacific Section, Headquarters: Australia
  • Europe and Middle East Section, Headquarters: Cambridge, England
  • Section of the Americas, Central Philadelphia, PA, USA
