Fries Museum

The Fries Museum ( German: Frisian Museum, Frisian: Frisian Museum ) is a museum in Leeuwarden, Netherlands.

The museum is operated by the Provincial Friese Friesch Genootschap ter Beoefening van Geschied, oudheid -en taalkunde and was opened on 13 April 1881. In the first decades it was locally simply het Museum, the Museum called. The Historical Tentoonstelling (historical exhibition) of 1877 was such an outstanding success that the operator was able to move into a new property on the Leeuwarder Koningstraat.

With approximately 170,000 objects of art, culture and history of the Fries Museum Niederlands is the largest provincial museum. A showpiece of the museum is de zilveren Poptaschat, a silver goblet with lid from the 17th century. Even the supposed sword of Grote Pier is located in the museum. The Mata Hari hall is the life of a dancer and as a spy Mata Hari executed devoted, who was born in 1876 in Leeuwarden as Margaretha Zelle.
