Frits Went

Friedrich August Ferdinand Christian Went ( born June 18, 1863 in Amsterdam, † July 24, 1935 in Wassenaar ) was a Dutch botanist.

Went doctorate in 1886 at the University of Amsterdam and in 1896 professor of botany and director of the Botanical Garden of the University of Utrecht. Here he remained until his retirement in 1933 and served 1905/ 06 as rector. He is known especially for his studies of hormones of plants, especially on the role of auxin in phototropism.

His son Frits Went Warmolt was also a botanist.

Its author is mark Went.

Went Award from Cambridge University with an honorary doctorate and was a member of several scientific societies, including the Royal Society, the Royal Netherlands Academy of Sciences, the Royal Bohemian Society of Sciences, the Botanical Society of Japan, the Leopoldina and the Kungliga Vetenskaps - Societeten i Uppsala.
