The Fröndenberg station is a key station on the railroad tracks Fröndenberg - Kamen and Letmathe - Fröndenberg and the Upper Ruhrtalbahn. It is located south of the city Fröndenberg / Ruhr near the Ruhr.

History

With the opening of the section of sword to Arnsberg the Upper Ruhrtalbahn by the Bergisch- Märkische Railway Company ( BME) today Fröndenberg received its first railway connection in June 1870. Near the former village Fröndenberg that represents the present-day city core, a station was set up.

About two years later, on August 7, 1872, the first branch line to Menden built by Fröndenberg from was also opened by the BME, which was continued later by Neuenrade and Iserlohn. This railway line was given its own platform tracks ( tracks 11 ff ) south of the continuous main line, with those of the Ruhrtalbahn were merged in the West. Thus, the Fröndenberger station was developed into a wedge Station.
