Frösö Runestone

The so-called Runestone Frösön (Swedish Frösöstenen ) is a rune stone from the 11th century. It is located on the Swedish island Frösön in Jämtland and is the northernmost rune stone in Sweden and the only one in Jämtland. A connected with the Irish coupling snake biting its own tail, bears the text.

The stone is unique in that it was made in commemoration of the Christianization of Jämtland and the bridge builders. He is, as is often the case, no grave, but a descent stone.

The Frösöstein originally stood on the island side head of the first bridge between the island and the mainland. Due to bridge construction work 1969-1970, he was transferred and is now before the county council buildings in Östersund.
