Frottola

Under frottola (Italian ) is understood in the Italian Renaissance music, a four-part, simple song form from the period of about 1430-1530. This song style was developed at the courts of Mantua and Ferrara. The song is derived from the Latin " Frocta " where it describes a conglomerate of random thoughts. As compositional concept it was used for a wide variety of plants.

Many Frottolen came from singer - lutenist, for example, by Marchetto Cara and Bartolomeo Tromboncino, but the popular style of many other composers, including Josquin Desprez of was imitated. The development of frottola is the resulting 1530 Madrigal.
