FS Class ALe 803

The trains of the ALe series 803 of the Italian Ferrovie dello Stato are three-piece electric trains that were designed in the late 1950s for the transport.

8 of the total of 53 trains were four parts and were formed with two intermediate cars.

Each car has three doors, two seat compartments, each with 40 seats of the second class, separate. A fast passenger ascent, however, was limited due to floor height (the height of the platform was then - and is today often - only at 250 mm from top of rail ).

History

In the late 1950s were in Italy because of the increasing local and commuter traffic newer vehicles needed. The Ferrovie dello Stato therefore developed a new type of vehicle which was created on the basis of the existing high-speed railcars of ALe 601 series.

The first production run was delivered 1961/62 and consisted of 20 three -car trains; they were based in Rome and used on the suburban lines. 1962/63 was a second production run of 15 additional trains were equipped with Scharfenberg couplers and were used on the so-called " Metropolitana " of Naples. Later, some trains came to Genoa. 1972/73, the third production run of 18 trains was (including 8 four -piece sets ) built. From 1973, the further development of ALe 801 series was built.

From the mid- 1980s, the Neapolitan railcars were gradually replaced by the newer ALe 724 and umbeheimatet to Bologna, Trieste and Lombardy. In 2009, only 15 trains in operation, of which 9 in Lecco and 6 in Reggio Calabria.

Paintwork

Originally ALe 803 analogous to the TEE trains in sand-yellow ( " Giallo sabbia " ) and Bordeaux ( " Bordeaux Rosso " ) were painted. In the late 1990s she received usual for the FS XMPR finish.
