FS Class D.345

The D.345 is a series of diesel locomotives of the Italian State Ferrovie dello Stato railway.

History

The series D.345 was designed for all services on non-electrified lines. The total of 145 built specimens were procured in various contract sections, although not significantly differ. The locomotives have no Zugheizanlage and are therefore now used only freight trains - were formerly with the passenger trains also Heizwaggons carried with diesel generator for train heating. Over the years, some locomotives were temporarily retrofitted (driving trailer ) for use with push pull wagons. For this, the push pull control cable is installed, but its function was limited to the control of the automatic doors - remote control of the locomotive was not possible. From the early 1990s, the series is gradually being retrofitted with multiple unit control. In 1996, three machines were leased to the Ferrovie del Sud Est in Bari.

Use

Thanks to a top speed of 130 km / h, the series can be D.345 used on main and branch lines.
