Fuamnach

Fuamnach [' fuamnax ], also Fuamnach, is in Celtic mythology of Ireland, a member of the Tuatha Dé Danann.

Mythology

Fuamnach is in the narrative Tochmarc Etaine the daughter or granddaughter Iarbonels, the foster daughter Bresals and the first wife of Midir. When Midir in love with Étaín, they tried using their magical powers to destroy them. She transforms her rival in an ethereal creature, then into a seagull, and finally into a bee, all of which are carried by the wind. After several intricate, year-long events Fuamnach is finally rescued by Oengus mac Og the Étain and she loves beheaded.

The name is derived from the word Fuamnach fumain ( " head, neck scarf " ), which gives the wearer of their magic power.
