G! Festival

The annual G! Festival on the beach of Syðrugøta, Faroe Islands is next to the Summarfestivalur the largest open -air music festival in the country. The name G! derives not from the municipality Gøta, but on an SMS code that was common among the members of the former band.

Intitiator is the former Clickhaze musician Jón Tyril, who now serves as music director and spokesman for the festival.

The festival was held in 2002 for the first time held and the first open -air festival in the Faroe Islands. It was with 1,000 people at the time considered the most successful music event in the history of the Faroe Islands. 2005, there were 6,000 visitors and 2007 7000-8000 ( the Faroe Islands have 48,000 inhabitants). Since Syðrugøta situated in a sheltered bay with sandy beach, many visitors come with their boats.

The G! Festival received in 2005 in the person of Jón Tyril the Mentanarvirðisløn MA Jacobsen (National Culture Award ).

The 2006 festival was held from July 22 July 20. Well-known international guests, among others Kaizers Orchestra (NO), Mugison (IS), Outlandish (DK) and Beth Hart ( USA) be. Faroese stars are, inter alia, Eivør Pálsdóttir, Teitur Lassen, Høgni Lisberg, 200, Makrel and Annika Hoydal.
