G. P. Sippy

Gopaldas Parmanand Sippy (mostly GP Sippy, born September 14, 1915 in Hyderabad, † December 25, 2007 in Mumbai) was an Indian film producer and director.

Biography

Sippy came from the province of Sindh. He became a lawyer and operated a restaurant in Karachi. After the partition of India he moved to Bombay. With the film Sazaa he started his career in 1951 as a film producer and founded the production company GP Productions. He produced, among others, Amiya Chakrabortys Shahenshah (1953) and Raja Radha Krishna Nenes (1954). From 1955 led Sippy also self- directed. From his second film Marine Drive (1955 ) he produced under the company's Sippy Films, in the later his sons Ramesh and Vijay worked.

Since the 1960s, he worked exclusively as a producer. Its production Brahmachari (1968 ) earned him a Filmfare Award for Best Picture. With Andaz (1971), a half -decade collaboration between Sippy Gopaldas began as a producer and his son Ramesh Sippy as a director. It created the blockbuster Sholay (1975 ), Shaan (1980) and Sagar (1985).

Sippys name also turned up in the '90s nor as a producer, and he was still active in 2000, although the company is now led by his grandson Sascha Sippy.
