G4 nations

The countries Germany, Brazil, India and Japan are referred to in relation to a reform of the United Nations as G4 nations or group of four.

The G4 nations strive for a comprehensive expansion of the UN Security Council from 15 to 25 members, including six new permanent seats. The plan of the Group of Four sees this two permanent seats for Africa before and four additional non-permanent seats - one each for Asia, Africa, Latin America and Eastern Europe.

The common request from Germany, Japan, Brazil and India (G4) to permanent seats on the UN Security Council, however, ( AU) has again been rejected by an overwhelming majority in August 2005 by the African Union and thus has no chance to the required groups to a collection two-thirds majority of 128 of the 192 member states of the UN General Assembly. Be first the G-4 countries Japan indicated as a result of the withdrawal of the joint application.

After the rejection by the AU of the G4 application is withdrawn with high probability. Japan's Foreign Minister Nobutaka Machimura responded by explaining that his government would " not exist in all circumstances to a vote in the General Assembly ".
