Gabrielle-Suzanne Barbot de Villeneuve

Gabrielle -Suzanne Barbot de Villeneuve Lady (* 1695 in La Rochelle, † December 29, 1755 in Paris) was a French writer.

She was married to Jean -Baptiste de Gallon, Seigneur de Villeneuve and lived together after his death with Prosper Jolyot de Crébillon.

She wrote novels and short stories. Lasting fame kept the fairy tale Beauty and the Beast (La Belle et la Bête, 1740). It was Jeanne-Marie Leprince de in Beaumont's magazine Magasin des enfants, ou Dialogues entre une say governess et plusieurs de ses élèves been spread. The fairy tale has since experienced countless edits as a play and in movies.
