Gadi Eizenkot

Gadi Eizenkot (Hebrew גדי אייזנקוט; * 1960 in Eilat, Israel ) is an Aluf (English as Major General ) of the Israel Defense Forces and in October 2006 the Commanding General of the Israeli Northern Command. He replaced Udi Adam, who had come in for criticism during the Lebanon war of 2006.

Military career

Eizenkot served at the beginning of his career in the Golani Brigade, which he later commanded from 1997 to 1998. During this time he received a BA in History from the University of Tel Aviv and attended the course for Security Studies of the U.S. Army. He was military secretary to the prime minister and the defense minister under Ehud Barak in 1999. Up to this time he had the " Amud Haesh " and the Judea and Samaria Division commanded. As of June 2005, he headed the Directorate of Operations. After Udi Adam had come in for criticism during the Lebanon War in 2006 and resigned in October 2006, Eizenkot took over his position as commander of the Northern Command.

Eizenkot is married and has five children.
