Gaetano Aloisi Masella

Gaetano Cardinal Aloisi Masella ( born September 30, 1826 in Pontecorvo, Frosinone, Italy, † November 22, 1902 in Rome ) was a Cardinal of the Roman Catholic Church.

Life

On 3 June 1849 he was ordained priest. On May 22, 1877, he was named by Pope Pius IX. Titular Archbishop of Neocaesarea in pontoon. He received his episcopal consecration Cardinal Alessandro Franchi. In the same month Gaetano Aloisi Masella was appointed Apostolic Nuncio Apostolic Nunciature of Munich. As such, he lectured in 1878 with Otto von Bismarck during its cure in Bad Kissingen.

In September 1879 he became nuncio to Portugal. In November 1883 he was appointed to the Curia to Rome and was on March 14, 1887 by Pope Leo XIII. taken as a cardinal priest with the titular church of San Tommaso in Parione in the College of Cardinals. In 1893, he joined the titular church of Santa Prassede. From 1899 to 1902 he was Prefect of the Sacred Congregation of Rites.

He was the uncle of Cardinal Benedetto Aloisi Masella later, he consecrated himself a priest on June 1, 1902.
