Gaetano Starrabba

Prince Gaetano Starrabba di Giardinelli ( born December 3, 1932 in Palermo ) is an Italian former race car driver.

The Sicilian nobles Gaetano Starrabba began his career in the mid 1950s in Italy. He drove sports car racing, first with a 2-liter Maserati, he replaced it with a Ferrari 500TR soon. In 1958, he was so seventh at the Targa Florio. His team-mate was the legendary Ferrari veteran Franco Cortese.

1961 acquired Starrabba a Lotus 18 chassis and equipped it with a 4-cylinder Maserati engine. With this thoroughly race-ready car, he played 1961-1963 some Formula 1 race. In 1963, he was so sixth Grand Prix of Syracuse and fifth at the Grand Prix of Rome. As early as 1961 he had gone with Lotus Grand Prix of Italy at the start. The race he could not finish after an engine failure.

In 1964, after a short trip to the formula 3 with the Giannini Brabham, he again ascended sports car racing until the end of the decade.
