The Military Academy of Air Force, " J. A. Gagarin "(Russian Военно - воздушная академия им. Ю. А. Гагарина ) is one of the military colleges of the former Soviet army. After the end of the Soviet Union it is now managed by the Russian army.

History

In the year 1940 of the Military Academy for engineers of the Air Force, " Prof. NJ Zhukovsky " the faculties of commanders, Funkorter and helmsmen outsourced. Based on these faculties, complemented by training courses for senior squad, the Academy has been established. The newly founded institution was initially designated as a military academy for commanders and navigators of the air forces of the Red Army. One year after the end of World War II, the Academy was renamed the Military Academy of the Air Force. After the early death of Yuri Gagarin Military Academy got its name. The seat of the Academy is in Monino, a town near Moscow. The former Military Academy of the Air Force " Nikolay Y. Zhukovsky " in 1946 to the military academy for engineers of the Air Force.

At the Academy of the various races of the Air Force are trained primarily commanders. In addition, it is the scientific center for the elaboration of the problems of operational art of air forces and the tactics of the individual flyer genres.

The Academy received, among other things, the Red Banner in 1945 and 1968, the Kutusoworden.

In the barracks of the academy is also the headquarters Museum of the Air Forces of the Russian Federation
