Gail Chanfreau

Gail Sherriff (also known as Gail Chanfreau, Gail Lovera and Gail Benedetti; born April 3, 1946 in Australia) is a former French tennis player with Australian roots.

Life and career

Chanfreau played in 1966 for the Australian Fed Cup team, but emigrated in 1968 from France, became a French citizen and went from 1969 to 1980 for the French Fed Cup team.

After 1884 Gail 1966 played against her sister Carol Sherriff only the second match between sisters at the Wimbledon Championships. The next sibling match was in 2000 between Serena and Venus Williams instead.

Chanfreau reached in 1967 and 1972 respectively the quarterfinals of the Australian Open in 1968 and 1971, the French Open. In the years 1967, 1970 and 1971, she won with Françoise Durr competition in women's doubles and 1976 with Fiorella Bonicelli at the French Open.
