Galerie Neue Meister

The Galerie Neue Meister in Dresden is one of about 300 exhibited paintings of the 19th and 20th centuries, the most important German painting museums of modern art. Major focus of the collection German romanticism, bourgeois realism of the second half of the 19th century and impressionism. The New Masters Gallery is one of the Dresden State Art Collections. It is located since 1965 in the Albertinum on Brühl's Terrace.

History

The collection of work initially began in the Dresden Gemäldegalerie. After Bernhard August von Lindenau 1830 director of the Royal Museum was started from 1843 an enhanced acquisition of contemporary art for the newly created " Modern gallery ". Lindenau presented annually for 700 dollars out of its assets ready. Also, the Academic Council, which was responsible for the Academy of Fine Arts and the Art Gallery, contributed 50 percent of the net proceeds of all academic art exhibitions in for the purchase of the painting. Until 1882, only four major works of German Romanticism were in the Collection: From Caspar David Friedrich Two Men Contemplating the Moon and Megalithic grave in autumn and Ludwig Richter Bridal procession in Spring and crossing the Elbe at Schreckenstein in Usti nad Labem. After that, the " Modern gallery " under the direction of Karl Woermann was extended by artistically ambitious new acquisitions. After 1897, the International Art Exhibition was held in Dresden, the gallery bought now foreign works of contemporary art.

Under Hans Posse, who had since 1910 director of the gallery, which is still substantial collection ranges German romanticism, bourgeois realism of the second half of the 19th century Impressionism and formed in the "modern department " out. Through the creation of the "Dresden Museum Association " in 1911 and " patronage Association of Art Gallery " 1917, the gallery was financially strengthened.

In 1931, they camped the New Masters Gallery as an independent exhibition of the Dresden Art Gallery in the Sekundogenitur on the Brühl terrace. On 19 June 2010, the Albertinum was reopened after extensive renovation and conversion work. The renovation of the building and the installation of a flood-proof depots had become necessary after the Elbe flood in 2002. By moving the Green Vault in Dresden Castle and the spaces of salt streets wing are now available. It is shown here on an area of 1200 m² in changing exhibitions of contemporary art.
